Play Ball

The "regular" baseball season is over, but Nolan made the All Star Team, so it's just beginning for us this summer.

Mexican Restaurant

A few weeks ago, Nolan's class ran a Mexican Restaurant as part of their Social Studies curriculum.  It's the cutest thing EVER!  To prepare for the restaurant, the kids visited a local restaurant and learned about food service, then visited Publix to learn about goods and services.

Each child had to complete a job application AND each child had a job interview as well.  Nolan was assigned as the Cashier.

The class accepted reservations from parents, friends, family members, School Board personnel, etc. and had a GREAT successful restaurant!  The kids did a great job with hostessing, serving, cooking, etc.  The food was delicious!
Nolan had several family members eat lunch at the restaurant that day, one being his Mimi (Cecil's Mom).

The restaurant even had custom designed placemats!
After all guests were served, Nolan's teacher, Mrs. W, served her students!  It was precious!
I thought this was a great way to teach students about another country and have FUN while doing so!

Family Reunion

My Dad's side of the family had a family reunion a few weeks ago so my brother and I, along with our kids, loaded up in my vehicle.  A car full, that's for sure.

I knew there wouldn't be much for my kids to do since most of the people at the gathering were older, so I made sure we had baseball equipment in the back of my car.  (hooray for Mom!)

My brother was gracious enough to play ball with our kids--they had a great time!

The kids had a great time playing ball and we had a nice time with my Dad's family.  The kids sure did well too!

Mother’s Day in pictures

Mother’s Day is not really my favorite holiday.  I lost my sweet Mama 10 years ago Mother’s Day weekend and it has never been the same for me.  Here’s a glimpse of my Mother’s Day in pictures (with a few words thrown in too)!

Nolan decorated a cake for me at school.

I decided that a beach trip was in order for Mother’s Day….not sure you can tell, but this says Happy Mother’s Day---isn’t that sweet?  My boys wrote that for me in the beach sand!

In case you're wondering, the Tooth Fairy left him $1.00.   There's a recession in our house.

Field trip to........

Yep, you see it correctly.  Nolan's class took a field trip to PUBLIX!  We had a blast!  The kids took a field trip to Publix because they were learning about goods and services so they needed to review foods and food services!
Nolan waiting to go into Publix
I'll insert a FUNNY story here.   Most of y'all know that I coupon and by coupon, I mean, if I don't have a coupon for it, it doesn't get purchased.  Yeah.  I'm one of those.  Anyhow, I told Nolan I was going with him on his field trip to Publix and he said "Momma, you're not bringing your coupons are you?"......HAHAHAHAHAH.  Poor child.  Guess he would have been embarrassed?!?!

The kids had a great time listening about different items and processes in the grocery store....Oh yes, the hairnets are darling aren't they?  If you wanted to go "backstage" you HAD to wear one.  Yeah.  I was looking a hot mess.  Hence the reason you see NO pictures of me in this post.

And an even better time when they got to see raw meat being packaged, ground, and cut!

The kids were able to go into the fruit/vegetable preparation kitchen and see how the fresh fruit cups were made and they even got a sweet treat!
Look how HUGE that strawberry is!

Next up was the bakery and the kids watched a cake being decorated, then they were allowed to decorate their own cookie!

Publix was more than gracious to our kids by giving them popcorn, cookies, fruit, cheese, and goody bags at the end!  Nolan had a great time with great friends!
And in case you were wondering.  YES!  I did pick up a coupon booklet on my out.  So there. Ha!

School Carnival

A few weeks ago, N's school had a CARNIVAL.  It was AWESOME!  They had so many booths and so much for the kids to do!

Nolan had ball practice that night, so we weren't able to stay long at the CARNIVAL, but that was fine because it was H-O-T!!!

What a great way to provide fun for so many children and it was CHEAP too!!
